Burnet moths from Mull

We saw 3 species of burnet moth during our holiday, two of which are Mull specialties.

Transparent Burnet of the sub species caledonensis.This was photographed at Burg, but we also saw them at Glengorm castle.

Slender Scotch Burnet, photographed at Glengorm castle. They also occur at Burg but we didn't see them there for definite. These photos show just about every identification feature, the two spots nearest the wing tip are merged, the base colour is dark grey due to being thinly scaled, the hind wing has a narrow black border, the body is very hairy and crucially the legs are yellow. Just as important, it's on Mull and at a known site for the species. Slender Scotch Burnet is a Scottish endemic, restricted to a handful of sites on Mull, including Glengorm castle, and nearby Ulva.

Six Spot Burnet. Compared to the Slender Scotch Burnet, the legs are black, the body is less hairy and the base colour is black due to being more thickly scaled.
