Eccleston Mere

Coot 105
Mute swan 7 (adult & 6 cygnets)
Great crested grebe 12 (inc family party with 5 chicks)
Canada Goose 60

It's been a strange breeding season for waterfowl at the mere. Mandarins bred for the first time ever, mute swans for the first time in 20+ years, there's a great crested grebe family with an almost unprecedented 5 chicks, yet at the same time there's not a single Canada goose gosling on the mere. Normally they rear about 30 young, but not this year. The swans have been very aggressive and may have accounted for a below average breeding season, but there were goslings earlier in the year. They seem to have gone and not been replaced. Not sure why.....

Prior to this year, my previous highest count of coots was 62 last year.
