Hi Colin, I was up on billinge hill from about 10.30 until 12.00 this morning. I saw loads of yellowhammers and tree sparrows, 4 jays, and about 8 skylarks. I'd love to see the goldcrest and willow tit - are they normally in the same place or do they move around much up there?

Hi Damian. Everytime I've seen a Goldcrest on Billinge Hill, it's been in the bushes which are around the fence which runs down from the beacon (in front of you when you look towards the stone circle). They're not easy though, because there are lots of bushes you can't see on the other side of the fence. I usually hear them first. The Willow Tit I saw was in the same area but further down, near the kissing gates where the path runs through woodland. I know somebody who saw two in the little quarry near the beacon last week. It's just a question of finding the tit flocks. They're quite rare birds on the hill, these were apparently the first this year.
